Tech Topic Connection

 

             In Week 3 I chose Programming Language as the tech topic I wanted to learn more about. There are so many different programming languages and since I am majoring in Information Technology, I asked myself “how many programming languages are there?” According to Wikipedia, there are thousands of programming languages. They are not used all the time and it really depends on what you need a program to do that determines what programming language is right for you. Programming languages are divided into groups. You have your high-level languages and low-level language. High level languages are the most popular languages which include C, C++, Java, Python, and JavaScript (zyBooks 2019).

            Programming languages are used to provide a computer instruction on how to operate. With the different languages out there, one must know exactly what it is you would like to accomplish because of the programming. For example, C++ is a programming language that is commonly used in game development, data base management and web browsers. It is even used in the medical field for laboratory testing equipment. Python is another programming language that is used in web development and automation. With the versatility these programming languages have, it is no wonder they have become two of the most popular programming languages today.  However, programming language is heavily reliant on the hardware.

            There are different brands of computers out there. We have the HP, Acer, Dells and Apple for example. These brand name products range in price from affordable to pricey, depending on some of their components. Alternatively, you may create, customize, or modify a PC to your liking or specifications. Programming language is heavily reliant on both internal and external hardware. Programming language cannot be created without the external hardware, such as the keyboard and screen. Internal components such as CPU and RAM also play a crucial role. The CPU or central processing unit, runs program instructions and controls other hardware (zybooks 2019). RAM or Random Access Memory is a short-term memory component that stores temporary files so that they are recovered or accessed quickly. The more RAM a computer has, the faster your computer which would allow programming languages to create applications and software.

            Programming languages are responsible for the development of applications you see today such as Facebook, Spotify, TikTok and so many more. Programming languages are also responsible to mobile applications and video games for either consoles or PCs. All these applications, software, websites, social medica applications are created using one or more programming languages such as C++, JavaScript, Python to name a few. The Scratch assignment gave us all a further insight into what programming might look like and it is very meticulous work. In order to make a program work as intended you have to put all your attention to the details or your next move and your overall goal. I personally hope to discover more about programming languages and see what kind of opportunities will present itself in the future as a result.
